Area 11: UAV & Mobile Robot Autonomy
Master Question
What does it take for an intelligent agent to operate independently in an open world?
What We Want to Discover
An open world does not come with a fixed map, a fixed set of obstacles, or guaranteed connectivity. This area studies how mobile robots and unmanned aerial vehicles should perceive, localize, plan, and act when the environment is only partially known in advance and can change while the mission is underway.
Why It Matters
Most practical deployments of ground and aerial robots happen outside controlled environments. Autonomy that only works in a mapped, static warehouse does not transfer to a field, a disaster site, or open airspace.
